Track & Field Scores 9 Dual Wins, 8 Event Victories at Stan Lyons
March 17, 2018 | Track & Field
INDIANAPOLIS - - The Ball State track & field program battled through the cold, snow, sleet, rain and windy conditions to open the outdoor season with eight event wins in a dominating showing at the Stan Lyons Invitational hosted by Butler Saturday.
Â
Just as dominating as Ball State's individual medal total, was its head-to-head dual scores which saw the Cardinals go a perfect 9-0 versus NCAA Division I programs.
Â
Ball State defeated Butler (75-33), Dayton (64-29), Evansville (75-39), Indiana (70-14), IUPUI (71-13), Loyola (74-30), Northern Kentucky (68-22), Wright State (64-59) and Xavier (70-48).
Â
Leading the charge individually for the Cardinals was sophomore Amber Jones who won the 400m dash with a career-fast time of 58.05, plus ran in both the first-place 4x100m (49.31) and 4x400m (4.01.13) relays.
Â
Sophomore hurdler Jasmine Harris also factored in the 4x100m relay win, while taking top billing in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.69.
Â
Jones and Harris were joined in the 4x100m relay by senior Anna-Kay West and freshman Ivy McKee. Freshman Dejah Johnson, freshman Kaylor Hoover and junior Peyton Stewart combined with Jones for the 4x400m relay victory.
Â
Freshman Paris Carver also picked up an event win on the track, capturing the 200m dash title in a career-fast 26.01 in her outdoor collegiate debut.
Â
Ball State was just as strong in the field events, taking top billing in all three events it had student-athletes compete in.
Â
Sophomore Kelsey Walters picked up Ball State's first even win of the meet with a career-best shot put throw of 13.70m
Â
Freshman Abby Denham followed with a career-best javelin mark of 39.12m, which was over 7.5m further than the event's runner-up.
Â
Meanwhile, junior Regan Lewis kept doing her thing in the high jump, battling the adverse conditions to clear a winning height of 1.60m. She finished just ahead of freshman teammate Hailley Peters who successfully cleared 1.55m to take second.
Â
In addition to the eight event wins, Ball State's student-athletes earned 18 career-best performances and collected 20 top five finishes on the day.
Â
The Ball State track & field team will hope for better weather condition, but just as good of results, when it returns to action next Saturday (March 24) at the Indiana Wesleyan University Polar Bear Invitational.
