BOONE, N.C. — In a great team effort, Ball State field hockey started off the regular season on the right foot with a 3-1 victory over Appalachian State Friday afternoon.
The Cardinals scored the first three goals of the game on the way to earning head coach Christy Longacre's first victory as Ball State's coach.
The Cardinals struck with the only goal in the first half 17 minutes into the contest. Senior Bryce Barnes scored on a cross from freshman midfielder Hillary Scott.
Ball State extended its lead to 3-0 with goals from last year's leading scorer, senior Lexi Kavanaugh, and senior Mikayla Mooney. Appalachian State scored its only goal in the 60th minute.
Senior Jordan Dues got the win in goal with three saves.
Ball State concludes its weekend trip on Sunday, Aug. 30 at Davidson at 1 p.m.
