October 05, 2025 | Field Hockey
RICHMOND, Va. - The Ball State field hockey team (3-10) had a long weekend on the road playing at James Madison on Friday and then finishing the weekend with a 5-0 non-conference loss at Richmond (6-5) Sunday afternoon at Crenshaw Field.
Â
The Spiders jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the opening 15 minutes of action and would tack on two more scores prior to halftime to take a 3-0 advantage over the Cardinals at intermission.Â
Â
After the break, Ball State held Richmond scoreless in the third frame. At the 39:36-mark Emma van Hal was close to scoring a goal but after further review the goal was no good. The Cardinals though didn't back gown drawing back-to-back corners but struggled to connect offensively.Â
Â
The Cardinals' defense tired in the final frame and Richmond was able to add two more goals to go up by five with less than a minute left in the contest.Â
Â
Not all was lost, as the Cardinals totaled 13 total shots while drawing seven corners but unfortunately the Spiders tallied 19 shots and 15 corners. Carleigh Hofelich was in goal for BSU and registered nine saves while van Hal finished the day with three shots and one shot on goal.Â
