
Field Hockey Plays Two Games on the Road This Weekend

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team (3-8, 1-2 MAC) will hit the road this weekend for a Mid-American Conference contest at James Madison University (7-4, 2-1 MAC) on Friday at 2 pm ET. The Cardinals will then compete at Richmond (5-4) in non-conference action on Sunday at 11 am ET.

The Cardinals are looking to get back on the winning track this weekend after dropping two heartbreakers last weekend against Central Michigan and Kent State. Ball State fell in the final minutes in regulation to the Chippewas by a 2-1 decision last Friday before suffering a 1-0 overtime setback against the Golden Flashes on Sunday, Sept. 28.Â

Grace Clokie leads the team with 17 shot attempts, 11 shots on goal, one game-winning score and two total goals for the season. The Cardinals' starting goalie as of late has been Carleigh Hofelich with a 2-3 record and she has tallied 41 total saves.Â

James Madison is off to another strong league start this season. The reigning regular season MAC champs will be the host of this year's conference tournament. The Dukes' have lost one MAC game this season and that was last Sunday at App State in overtime by a score of 5-4.Â

The last time the Cardinals and Dukes met was in Muncie resulting in a 4-0 loss for Ball State. BSU has not defeated JMU since August 31, 2003, which was in Harrisonburg, Va., by a score of 8-1. Since 1980 JMU leads the all-time series record 6-5.Â

After Friday, Ball State will take on the Richmond Spiders on Sunday where the two teams have met only twice since 2008. The Cardinals have dropped both those contests on a neutral field to the Spiders.Â

After this weekend, Ball State will play at Ohio University on Friday, Oct. 10 at 1 pm ET in Athens.
