Men’s Golf Opens Ka’anapali Classic Friday

Strong field features eight of the nation’s top 50 teams

The Ball State men's golf teams tees it up Friday in Hawaii, competing in the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic for the second straight year.
The Cardinals are part of a strong 24-team field for the three-day event at Ka'anapali Golf Club in Maui. The action begins Friday with an 8:30 a.m. local time (2:30 p.m. ET) shotgun start. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
Ball State's lineup consists of Johnny Watts, Michael VanDeventer, Michael Makris, Timothy Wiseman and Keegan McKinney.
Watts finished third out of 102 golfers, including some of the nation's best, last year at Ka'anapali. He and Michael VanDeventer have placed among the top 10 in two of Ball State's past three events this fall.
Timothy Wiseman led the Cardinals the last time out with the best tournament of his collegiate career. The sophomore tied for eighth at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate and led Ball State to a fourth-place finish as a team.
The field this week includes eight teams rated among the top 50 in the latest Golfstat rankings -- Oklahoma (7), LSU (13), Georgia (15), Clemson (24), North Florida (33), Kansas (37), South Carolina (39) and UNCW (49).
Boise State, Bowling Green, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Georgia State, Gonzaga, Hawaii, Hawaii-Hilo, Houston, Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, Minnesota, Sacramento State, Texas-San Antonio and UC Santa Barbara are also competing.
