Rindfleisch Leads Baseball to 4-0 Win over Miami U.

In a non-conference game against Miami University, Ball State handed the RedHawks a 4-0 loss in the midweek contest at Ball Diamond of the First Merchants Ballpark Complex.

With the win, the Cardinals improved to 8-7 on the season, while Miami University falls to 2-9 on the year.

The Cardinals managed one run in four different innings to claim the win, while five Ball State pitchers limited the RedHawks to no runs on four hits.

Ball State started the scoring with one run in the second inning when Jarett Rindfleisch hit his first home run of the season to put the Cardinals ahead 1-0.

In the fourth inning, Rindfleisch reached on an error by the Miami University shortstop and scored on a sacrifice fly to left field by Zach Plesac, who was in the lineup as the team's designated hitter.

With a 2-0 lead through four, Ball State added a run in the fifth when Maloney walked with one out, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a Rindfleisch ground out.

The Cardinals added an insurance run in the seventh frame when Rindfleisch hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Maloney and Ball State won its first game of the season at Ball Diamond.

Trevor Henderson was credited with the win after pitching 3.0 innings and allowing only two hits, no runs and striking out five batters. Matt Haro, Devin Wilburn, David Current and B.J. Butler finished the game off for the Cardinals, striking out a combined five batters and allowing only two hits to the RedHawks.

Rindfleisch was 1-for-3 at the plate with 3 runs-batted-in and two runs scored. Plesac was 1-for-3 with one RBI, while Maloney was 1-for-2 with two runs scored.

Ball State, which improved to 14-2 in its last 16 games at home, are scheduled for a four-game series Friday through Sunday at Dayton before returning to the friendly confines of the First Merchants Ballpark Complex March 18 vs. Rutgers.
