Soccer Falls to Central Michigan, 3-0

MUNCIE, Ind. ? The Ball State soccer team dropped its first Mid-American Conference game of the season as the Cardinals fell 3-0 to regionally ranked Central Michigan on Friday afternoon at BSU Soccer Field. The loss snaps the Cardinals' eight-game winning streak as they are now
"Today wasn't our day, especially in the final third of the field," first-year head coach Michelle Salmon said. "We were unable to finish on numerous scoring chances early on and you can't miss those chances against a team the caliber of Central Michigan."
The Cardinals came out of the gate and put the pressure on the Chippewas in the early going. BSU registered five corner kicks in the first eight minutes but were unable to crack the CMU defense and goalkeeper Anne Decker. Forward Emily Rein had the Cardinals' best chance in the ninth minute but was unable to find the back of the net from close range.

The Chippewas added their second goal in the 31st as Molly Gerst scored off the second assist of the day from Alison Heydorn. CMU closed out the scoring in 35th minute as Heydorn scored the final goal off of a cross from Carly Tydings.
The Cardinals came out in the second half and posted some solid chances against the Chippewas. Midfielder Amy Holst came close to putting the Cardinals on the board in the 75th minute but was denied by the crossbar after beating Decker with the shot.
The Cardinals out-shot the Chippewas, 13-9, in the game and also controlled the corner kick tally at 11-2. Decker finished the game with five saves in the shutout for CMU while Murphy picked up one save in the loss.
The eight-game winning streak and nine-game unbeaten streak that came to the end is the longest in program history for the Cardinals.
