Soccer Falls in Overtime to Eastern Michigan, 2-1

MUNCIE, Ind. ? The Ball State soccer team dropped its second game of the weekend as the Cardinals came up on the short end of a 2-1 overtime loss to Eastern Michigan on Sunday afternoon at the BSU Soccer Field. The loss drops the Cardinals to
"We just didn't play our best soccer this weekend," head coach Michelle Salmon said. "We didn't capitalize on our chances in the final third this afternoon. Sometimes bounces just don't go your way and that was our story this weekend."
Ball State opened the scoring just before half as they took advantage of its pressure in the 45th minute. Forward Leah Johnson placed a ball into the box where reserve Bailey Decker was able to poke the ball past the diving EMU goalkeeper Monique Budani and into the back of the net. The goal was the first of the season and the second of the career for Decker.
Ball State came close to taking a two-goal lead in the 58th minute as they again put pressure on Budani and the Eagle defense. Forward Sarah Leibel blasted a shot off of the cross bar and Budani saved the rebound effort from the foot of Amy Holst. The Cardinals controlled pressure for most of the game as they out-shot the Eagles, 17-5, but where unable to add to their early lead.
Eastern Michigan (
The Eagles completed the comeback in the overtime as they registered the only two shots in extra time. EMU defender Katie Zundel found forward Maggie Christensen behind the BSU defense in the 96th minute. Christensen took the ball on the breakaway and was able to place under the arms of the diving Rachael Murphy to snatch the victory for the Eagles.
