Early Second Half Goal by Klauss Leads Soccer to Win over Cincinnati

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State soccer team got a goal early in the second half from Annika Klauss on its way to a 1-0 win over Cincinnati on Sunday afternoon at the Briner Sports Complex.
Klauss made a sliding kick off an assist by Mary Jane Keller and found the back of the net in the 49th minute for what proved to be the only goal of the afternoon. The score from Klauss was her first of the season, while Keller was credited with the first assist of her collegiate career.
Ball State (2-2-1) improved to 2-0 at home with the winning decision. The soccer program improved to 1-1 against Cincinnati in series history with the first match taking place in 2021.
Goalkeeper Kate Pallante made three saves in keeping the clean sheet, as she faced 10 total shots from the visiting Bearcats (1-2-1). Ball State took three shots on the afternoon with two of them being on goal.
Keller joined Klauss as Cardinals placing a shot on target during the match, and Delaney Ahearn also took a shot.
Audrey Goodyear, Ainsley Schaufele, Jordyn Klaasen and Pallante went the full 90 minutes for the hosts.
Cincinnati took more shots (10-3) on the afternoon and generated more corner kicks (6-2) but was whistled for more fouls (10-4).
Ball State's next match is set for Sunday, Sept. 6 at home against Eastern Illinois. The home contest will feature a pregame Senior Day ceremony.
