Soccer Falls Sunday in Road Match at Western Kentucky

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Ball State soccer team could not come back from early-half goals by Western Kentucky in a 2-0 setback on Sunday afternoon at the WKU Soccer Complex.
The Cardinals (1-1-1) generated shots on goal by Jess Fernau in the first half and Annika Klauss in the second half but couldn't find the back of the net. The host Hilltoppers (2-0-2) scored in the third minute and 48th minute to post the winning decision.
Fernau tallied two shots while Klauss took three for Ball State, who was playing in its second road match of the season. Defenders Jordyn Klaasen and Ainsley Schaufele joined goalkeeper Kate Pallante as Cardinals going the full 90 minutes.
April McDonald got the early score on a header off a corner kick from Georgia Liapis to give Western Kentucky a 1-0 edge. Maggie Bellair scored in the first few minutes of the second half for the final goal of the day.
The hosts took more shots (10-5) and had more corner kicks (6-1) on the afternoon while Ball State was whistled for more fouls (10-6).
The next match for the Cardinals is scheduled for Thursday night at Purdue.
