Baseball Drops Rain-Shortened Game at Butler; Wednesday Game vs USI Canceled Due to Expected Inclement Weather
April 14, 2026 | Baseball
INDIANAPOLIS – The Ball State baseball team fell 8-5 at Butler in a rain-shortened five-inning game on Tuesday afternoon at Bulldog Park.
The Cardinals (18-18) plated three runs in the first inning on RBI singles from Brett Griffiths and Kenskey Thomas, and Thomas scored on a wild pitch. After the host Bulldogs (14-22) didn't score a run in the first inning, they crossed home plate two times in each of the next four innings to claim the win.
The game was delayed a little more than two hours into the contest with lightning in the area and soon called off as a regulation game.
Ryan Muizelaar brought home DJ Scheumann and Thomas on a bases-loaded single in the fourth to put Ball State ahead 5-4, but the hosts put up two runs in the bottom half of the frame to regain a 6-5 edge.
Alex Burden (1-4) allowed four runs in 1.1 innings of work to be hit with the loss.
Muizelaar went 2-for-3 at the dish with the two RBI and one run scored as the lone Ball State player with multiple hits on the afternoon.
Butler's Simon Linde (1-0) tossed a scoreless fourth inning to be credited with the win. The Bulldogs got two RBI each from Easton Moore and Logan Crock.
Ball State's game against USI originally scheduled for Wednesday afternoon was canceled due to expected inclement weather, so the next game for the Cardinals will now be Friday night at Kent State.
