Liz Sanders enters her sixth season as assistant field hockey coach at Ball State, after being appointed to the position June 1, 2004.
"Liz brings so many valuable things to our program," Payne says. "Besides an infectious personality, Liz continues to develop her knowledge of the game and evolve as a coach. She has the knack of knowing exactly when to praise and when to criticize. I cannot say enough about what she brings to the program as well as her commitment and desire to help Ball State achieve its goals."
Sanders’ offensive expertise has been instrumental to the success of Ball State players. In 2006, she tutored MAC Player of the Year Lindsay Quay, who scored 14 goals. Last season, she helped Brooke MacGillivary to All-MAC First Team honors after a 15-goal season.
Sanders came to BSU after serving three seasons as assistant field hockey coach at Georgetown University. She was responsible for recruiting, travel, scouting, compliance and equipment, while assisting in all phases of coaching for the Hoyas. Sanders also developed the strength and conditioning program for GU’s players. She has extensive camp experience at various sites across the country and has been heavily involved with the Futures Development Program in Virginia.
Sanders is a three-year member of the Midwest High Performance Team, which captured a silver medal at the USA Field Hockey National Championship in the summer of 2007. The High Performance Training Center includes teams comprised of current and former college players, including members of the USA National Team. All participation is by selection and based on performance at regionally-based high performance centers.
A 2001 graduate of James Madison with a bachelor’s degree in history, Sanders was a four-year letterwinner in field hockey for the Dukes. A third team All-American in 2000, she was a two-time recipient of all-region and All-Colonial Athletic Conference accolades. She was a two-time CAA All-Tournament selection and was honored as a NFHCA Senior All-Star in 2000. During her four-year career, Sanders helped JMU to a pair of NCAA appearances. She ranks No. 5 in school history with 51 goals and 121 points. Sanders is tied for JMU’s single-game record for goals scored with five, achieved during her senior campaign.
