Women’s Golf Closes Play In Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio - - The Ball State women's golf team closed play in the Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational with a +35 (323) Saturday morning to hold steady in 10th place among the highly competitive 14-team field.
Battling eight of the nation's top 81 teams on the challenging Scarlet Course at The Ohio State University Golf Club, the Cardinals finished the 54-hole tournament with a team score of +90 (954).
The host Ohio State Buckeyes, the nation's 36th-ranked team and tournament host, won the event with a score of +26 (890), two strokes better than No. 25 Iowa State which finished second at +28 (892).
While No. 30 Kent State finished third at +30 (894), Ball State topped league rivals Western Michigan (11th / +93 / 957), Ohio (13th / +108 / 972) and Toledo (14th / +128 / 992).
On another challenging day for scoring, with just three of the field's 74 players finishing the round under par, junior JJ Gregston led the Cardinals for the second straight round with a score of +8 (80). She carded one of the team's four birdies on the day, raising her tournament total to four.
Senior Sabrina Langerak was the team's top overall finisher, closing with a +9 (81), to tie for 35th among the field at +19 (235). She added one more birdie in her final round, to finish her tournament with four.
Seniors Sarah Gallagher and Jasmine Driscoll also finished their final tours of the 6,319-yard, 72-par course with rounds of +9 (81). Gallagher and Driscoll also carded one birdie each in the final round, with Gallagher finishing the tournament with a team-high seven birdies to tie for 21st among the field, while Driscoll carded three over the 54-hole event.
As a team, Ball State's 20 total birdies tied for ninth among the 14-team field.
Up next, the Ball State women's golf team travels to the Firestone Country Club for the Mid-American Conference Championships. The three-day event runs Sunday, April 26 to Tuesday, April 28.
