Women’s Golf Off to Solid Start at Fighting Irish Classic

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - - The Ball State women's golf team is within striking distance of another top five finish after opening play in the Fighting Irish Classic with a two-round score of +23 (592).
While Purdue leads the event at -5 (286), the Cardinals are just 10 strokes out of second place and four shy of the top five. If the last two events set the tone, Ball State could be poised to charge up the leaderboard Sunday as it hunts for a third consecutive strong closing round.
Leading the Cardinals' effort once again Saturday was freshman Taylor Larkins who is tied for fifth place overall at -1 (141). Larkins shot -1 (70) in her opening tour of the Warren Golf Course and followed with a E (71) in the nightcap on the 6,062-yard trek.
On her way to a one-under mark, Larkins played steady throughout the day, carding 31 pars and three birdies. In fact, she played a 32-hole stretch between the two rounds at three-under.
Freshman Elizabeth Coleman turned in Ball State's second-lowest score of the day and is tied for 23rd among the 81-player field at +7 (149).
The Cardinals conclude play in the Fighting Irish Classic Sunday with another 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Ball State will tee off on holes 8-11 for the final round.
