Larkins Finishes Third at Fighting Irish Classic

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - - Freshman Taylor Larkins turned in her second top three finish of the season Sunday, finishing play in the Fighting Irish Classic at E (213) to tie for third among the 81-player field.
"Taylor is just so darn tough," head coach Cameron Andry said. "She doesn't get flustered, just makes great decisions and hits good shots to the correct spot all the time. The putts just weren't falling today but she played another stellar round of golf!"
Larkins closed the 54-hole event by shooting +1 (72) in her final round, adding two more birdies and 13 more pars to her weekend total. In fact, Larkins led the tournament field with 44 total pars, five more than the next closest player on the 6,062-yard Warren Golf Course.
As a team, the Cardinals shot +18 (302) in its final round, counting scores of +4 (75) from freshman Elizabeth Coleman, +6 (77) from junior Sophie Korthuijs and +7 (78) from sophomore Ashley Kirkland.
The effort helped Ball State maintain its spot in seventh overall among the 14-team field at +42 (894). Purdue won the event at -1 (851), with Samantha Brown taking medalists honors for the Boilermakers at -4 (209).
"I'm so proud of the entire team," Andry exclaimed. "This was a tough week with a tournament in Colorado, a missed flight, then heading straight to South Bend to play a challenging course against some great competition!"
Playing in its second tournament of the week, and third tournament in the span of 14 days, the Cardinals ranked second among the tournament field with 175 total pars, while ranking fifth overall in par 4 average.
"We certainly showed some signs of fatigue, especially today in the final round, but each one of them fought so hard until the last putt dropped," Andry added.
The Ball State women's golf team will get some much-deserved rest before closing the fall portion of its 2025-26 schedule at the Diamante Intercollegiate Oct. 18-20 at the Diamante Country Club in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
