March 06, 2026 | Men's Tennis
TOLEDO, Ohio - The Ball State men's tennis team kicked off Mid-American Conference (MAC) play in dominant fashion, securing a 5-2 road victory over Toledo on Friday afternoon at the Shadow Valley Tennis Club.
The Cardinals (6-6, 1-0 MAC) overcame an early deficit after the Rockets (6-6, 0-1 MAC) swept the top two doubles courts to claim the opening point. Despite the slow start in doubles, Ball State responded by winning five of the six singles matches to clinch the conference opener.
The Cardinals surged in singles play as Jacks Lancaster set the tone at the No. 1 spot with a straight-set 6-1, 6-3 victory over Poonthong Komolpisut. With the score evened, Ball State's No. 6 singles player Broc Fletcher turned in a 6-4, 6-1 defeat against Charlie Snow to put the Cardinals ahead of the Rockets, 2-1.
Toledo quickly leveled the match at 2-2 with a win at the No. 5 spot, leaving the outcome to three final three-set battles. Drew Hayward reclaimed the lead for Ball State at No. 3, fighting back to defeat Lucas Britez 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Andrei Caragea then clinched the overall victory at No. 2 with a 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 win over Hanamichi Carvajal, while Jeremy Milette added a final fifth point at the No. 4 slot to complete the scoring.
The Cardinals will look to carry this momentum into the second half of their opening MAC weekend as they travel to take on the Buffalo Bulls on Sunday, March 8. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
