MAC Outdoor Championships On Tap For Track Team This Week
May 14, 2025 | Track & Field
ATHENS, Ohio -- The 2025 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships commence Thursday at Ohio University's Goldsberry Track, with Ball State primed to challenge a third-place team finish in last season's league meet.
Gone is four-time All-American Jenelle Rogers who was a key cog in last year's Cardinals finish, but Ball State relay teams and sprinters enter the meet as top contenders. Ball State's sprint crew of Paige Kirtz, Moriah Johnson, Kylee Marshall, Kenli Nettles, Jenna Oriani, Emma Potter and Alana Springer is expected to earn points for the Cardinals throughout the weekend. Those seven sprinters comprise the team's 4 x 400-meter and 4 x 100-meter relay teams, with Oriani expected to compete in both events.
Ball State boasts a top-five contender in all sprint events, with the relay teams seeded No. 1 in the 4x100 and No. 2 in the 4x400.
While Oriani, Johnson and Springer are top hopes for sprint medals, grad student Nettles has also emerged as a MAC contender in the jumps and multi-events. She enters the meet as the top seed in the heptathlon, won in recent years by Rogers and Charity Griffith, and is seeded fith in the long jump.
Look for points in field events to come from the trio of Malena Higgins, Sydney Miller and Brooklyn Taylor.
