Men’s Tennis Falls to WMU on Senior Day in #MACtion
April 04, 2025 | Men's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team (10-9, 3-5 MAC) dropped a 4-3 decision to rival Western Michigan (14-9, 4-3 MAC) Friday afternoon at the Ball State Tennis facility.
It was to be expected that these two rivalry squads would start out with a tightly contested doubles point. Despite all three courts being competitive, the Broncos' No. 3 doubles court was the first win of the match defeating the Cardinals' duo of Broc Fletcher and Nathaniel Webster by a 6-3 decision. The top two courts could have gone either way. As Andrew Hayward and Jacks Lancaster hung on throughout their competition, even taking the lead at one point, but would end up falling to Bragan Pierce and Drew Evans, 7-5 to give WMU the early 1-0 lead.
In singles, the match remained an up-and-dawn affair as Broc Fletcher and Sajin Smith both won their first sets over their respective opponents. Smith went on to take a 6-4, 6-4 victory against WMU's Alexander Antonopoulos at No. 5 singles while Fletcher finished off the match with a three-set thriller defeating Matej Kaiser, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
Mason Tran also won his match on senior day posting a 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 comeback against WMU's No. 3 player, Oscar Corwn.
The Broncos though won the remainder of the singles courts to secure their victory over the Cardinals today.
Prior to the match, the Cardinals paid tribute to their five seniors, Ian Brady, Petar Petrovic, Sajin Smith, Mason Tran and Nathaniel Webster.
The Ball State men's tennis team returns to action next weekend when it closes out its MAC regular season hosting Northern Illinois on Thursday and then UIC on Saturday. First serve will be at 1 pm ET for both matches.
