FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- With two regular season spring competition events remaining, Mike Fleck and the Ball State Cardinals begin their stretch drive in the 2024-25 college golf campaign. This weekend marks the fourth consecutive year that the Cardinals have competed in Vanderbilt University's Mason Rudolph Championships.
Fleck and Ball State enter the tournament as defending champions of the Mid-American Conference, but they enter a field with six teams ranked in Scoreboard's NCAA Division I top 50, and eight in the top 100. Auburn checks into the tournament ranked No. 2, Ole Miss is No. 3 and host Vanderbilt is No. 18. Colorado ranks at No. 27 nationally, Mississippi State is ranked 31st and Charlotte caps the top 50 participants at No. 43. Other schools among the star-studded cast of teams include Kentucky, Liberty, Middle Tennessee State, Penn State, Princeton, Toledo and Wisconsin.
Play at the Vanderbilt Legends Club commences Friday morning when golfers tee it up for an opening round of 18 holes. Due to recent storms in the Nashville area, and more rain forecast for Sunday, a modified MRC schedule calls for the final 36 holes to be played on Saturday.
Ball State enters the tournament with Carter Smith, Braxton Kuntz and Ali Khan leading the Cardinals with a familiar threesome atop its lineup. Sophomore transfer Avery Mahoney fills the No. 4 position and freshman Gavin Hare plays out of the No. 5 spot.
Tee times have yet to be determined for Friday's action that is slated to begin at 8:00 a.m.
