Baseball Set for Rematch in Indianapolis with Butler on Tuesday Afternoon

The Ball State baseball team heads down to Indianapolis for a 4 p.m. road game at Butler in a rematch of the March 19 game which took place in Muncie.

The Cardinals (26-11, 13-2 Mid-American Conference) swept Northern Illinois at home over the weekend to currently stand at first in the MAC regular season standing. Ball State blasted Butler 17-7 in seven innings in the March contest at Shebek Stadium.
The Bulldogs (12-23, 1-5 Big East) took the second game of the weekend series 7-0 against Villanova but fell in Friday's opener and Sunday's finale. Butler claimed a 17-5 triumph at Evansville in seven innings last Tuesday.
Blake Beemer is in his third season leading the Bulldogs after stints as an assistant coach (2019-22) and player (2010-13) at Ball State. Butler was picked to finish eighth in the eight-team Big East preseason poll.
The Bulldogs bash to the tune of conference-highs in batting average (.300), doubles (67), hits (344), runs (253), scoring offense (7.2 runs per game), and sacrifice flies (27, No. 4 in NCAA Division I). Butler's pitching staff has the highest ERA in the league at 10.93, and it has hit the ninth-most batters in the country (77).
Redshirt junior outfielder Jack Moroknek is one of the top hitters in college baseball, leading the Big East with 59 hits (No. 14 in NCAA Division I), 13 home runs (No. 24), 113 total bases (No. 5), a .790 slugging percentage (No. 15), and 44 runs scored. Moroknek has the second-most RBI (44) among Big East batters.
Up next for the Cardinals is a three-game series at Bowling Green starting at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
