Track and Field Finishes Fourth at MAC Indoor Championships

The championships opened Friday with the pentathlon. Ball State had three athletes representing in the event, including Jenelle Rogers, Sophie Daugard and Kenli Nettles. Leading in four of the five events, Rogers won the pentathlon championship for the second year in a row with a score of 3,998. Daugard finished seventh with 3,415 points and Nettles finished eighth with 3,289 points.Â
Friday's track events started with the mile preliminaries. Sarah Mahnensmith qualified for finals with a time of 4:55.61. Mahnensmith competed in the finals on Saturday, finishing eighth with a time of 5:01.34.
Also qualifying for finals in their respective events were Jennah Rogers and Jenelle Rogers in the 60-meter hurdles, Emma Potter and Jenna Oriani in the 400-meter dash and Alana Springer and Moriah Johnson in the 60-meter dash. Springer also qualified in the 200-meter dash.Â
On Saturday, the Rogers sisters finished second and third in the 60-meter hurdle finals. Jennah crossed with a time of 8.39, a new personal best, followed by Jenelle with a time of 8.52.Â
In a close race, Potter pulled off a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.12. Oriani was right behind her, crossing in 55.13 for fourth.Â
Springer had two strong races in the 60 and 200-meter finals. In the 60, Springer finished third with a time of 7.48, followed by a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.44. Also in the 60-meter dash was Johnson who ran a new personal best time of 7.57 for fifth place. Â
The final event on the track was the 4x400-meter relay. Ball State's team made up of Springer, Oriani, Allison Valladay and Potter finished in fourth with a collective time of 3:50.06.Â
Saturday's field events started with the shot put. Jenelle Rogers threw a mark of 15.09 meters, good for fourth place.Â
Closing the Cardinals successful weekend was Malina Miller who finished sixth in the high jump with a mark of 1.72 meters.Â
Continuing in the postseason, Jenelle Rogers will look to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the pentathlon. Rogers is currently ranked 14th nationally with her score of 4188 from the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational. The top 16 will qualify.
