February 01, 2025 | Track & Field
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A group from the Ball State track and field team traveled north over the weekend to South Bend for Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational.
In total, the Cardinals collected four event wins, four personal best performances and three new placements in the Ball State track and field record book.
On Friday, Alana Springer was the first Cardinal to secure a victory, finishing first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.47. Also finishing top five in the event were Jenna Oriani (24.99) and Moriah Johnson (25.01) who finished fourth and fifth respectively.
Saturday morning began with a flying start on the track as Sarah Mahnensmith and Carly Spletzer both ran their way into the record book in the 3,000-meter run with incredible personal best improvements. Mahnensmith finished third with a time of 9:40.80, the third fastest time in Ball State history. Right behind her was Spletzer, coming in fifth with a time of 9:43.37, now the fourth fastest Cardinal 3k ever.
Oriani will also add a new time into the record book. Previously, she held the third fastest 400-meter time at 55.15. However, her first-place performance this weekend in the 400-meter championships will move her into the second fastest spot with a new indoor personal best time of 54.98.
The Cardinals secured a win in the 400-meter open event as well, with Emma Potter leading the way. Potter finished with a season-best time of 55.64.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Jennah Rogers continued the success she has seen so far this season with a win and a new personal-best time of 8.54.
Sydney Miller has been consistently improving in the weight throw, getting her third-straight personal best mark on Saturday. Miller threw 14.31 meters, nearly one meter further than her previous best.
Concluding the meet, Ball State's 4x400-meter relay team of Alana Springer, Leila Williams-Molitor, Allison Valladay and Lindley Steele ran the relay in a time of 3:53.80, good for eighth place.
Up next, the Cardinals will head to Springfield, Ohio on Feb. 8 for the Gem City Invite.
