Eagleston and Hadziahmetovic Set PRs as Sprinters & Hurdlers Lead Cardinals at Indiana State
April 18, 2026 | Track & Field
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Ball State distance runners began the Cardinals' three-day competition weekend with an explosive dive into the program record books, and sprinters garnered headlines on Saturday's final day of the Gibson Invitational at Indiana State.
Field competition began Friday in Terre Haute and continued on Saturday with jump events, and the shot put and discus. Ball State's biggest storyline Saturday were freshmen Amina Hadziahmetovic and Lily Eagleston who each turned in personal records in sprint events.
Overall, Ball State rested many of its veterans following last week's high volume We Fly Challenge at Briner Sports Complex, and prior to events the next two weeks in Louisville and Columbus, Ohio, prior to the Mid-American Conference Championships.
The staggered lineup put Hadziahmetovic and Eagleston in lead positions for Ball State, each recording top-ten finishes and leading the Cardinals in point scoring. Hadziahmetovic set personal bests in both the 100 meters and 200 meters, while Eagleston had another career-best in the 400-meter hurdles, which could once again help the Cardinals raise their national ranking as the 17th-best unit among Division I women.
Ball State ended the day in Terre Haute with its best place in any event, second in the 4x400-meter relay. Ball State's time of 4:02.49 was clocked with Abby Brennan starting in the blocks, followed by Phaelin Jones and Lia Patterson. Lindley Steele ran the anchor leg.

"Overall, this weekend was a really good test for our program as we split the group," said fifth-year coach Adrian Wheatley. "We had our distance runners compete at Wake Forest, and to come away with four personal bests, including three performances that now rank top-3 all-time at Ball State, speaks to the direction our group is moving."
"At Indiana State," he continued, "we also saw individuals post PRs and compete within their bandwidth, which is always encouraging at this point in the season. More than anything, it was positive momentum for our program as we get closer to the championship segment of our year.
