FH Takes on Lehigh and the Iowa Hawkeyes in Iowa City This Weekend

MUNCIE, Ind. — Following a resilient opening weekend on the road, the Ball State field hockey team heads to Iowa City, Iowa, for a highly anticipated two-game slate at Grant Field. The Cardinals will square off against Lehigh University on Saturday before closing out the weekend against host Iowa. Due to excessive heat in the area, Saturday's contest will start at 11 a.m. ET while Sunday's game will begin at 12:30 p.m. ET.
Ball State enters the weekend with a 1-1 record after showcasing tremendous grit and adaptability during its opening road trip to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. After dropping a narrow, hard-fought 1-0 decision to Bucknell, the Cardinals bounced back beautifully less than 24 hours later. Displaying a potent and balanced attack, the squad secured an exciting 3-2 victory over Sacred Heart, proving its ability to close out tight games under pressure.
The Cardinals open the weekend against the Mountain Hawks, where Ball State's attacking depth will be key to dictating the tempo early and building on the offensive rhythm found against Sacred Heart. Lehigh holds a narrow 3-2 edge in the modern all-time series, winning the last match-up 2-1 in Columbus, Ohio, on Sept. 8, 2018. The Mountain Hawks come into the weekend at 1-0 after defeating LIU 2-0 last Friday.
On Sunday, Ball State will face Iowa for the 26th time in program history. While the Hawkeyes own a 12-0 record over Ball State at Grant Field and have won the last eight meetings dating back to 2003, the Cardinals look to disrupt an Iowa team that enters the weekend 2-0 after picking up marquee wins over Wake Forest and North Carolina.
Following this weekend's competition, the Cardinals return to the Briner Sports Complex for their home opener against Big Ten foe Indiana. The match doubles as the annual Ball State field hockey alumni game and is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. ET.
