MUNCIE, Ind. -- Freshman Ryan Louis led the No. 7 Cardinals in their sweep over Lees-McRae Friday night in Worthen Arena. Louis hit a .600 average, adding 12 kills, five blocks and an ace to help secure the win.
There were a few fresh faces that helped guide Ball State on the court Friday evening. Alongside Louis, leading the offensive front were Rodney Wallace and Ryan Bartz. Wallace recorded eight kills, hitting a .727 average. Bartz totaled six kills and also led the team's defensive efforts with nine digs and five blocks. Leading in assists was Griffin Satterfield who totaled an impressive 31 on the night.
Ball State hit an average of .417 from the floor with a total of 38 kills, five aces and 13 blocks. Meanwhile, Lees-McRae was held to 17 kills and one block assist.
In the first frame, the Cardinals took off early when a seven-point run put them up 13-6 over the Cougars. It was all Ball State from that point as the Cardinals saw another long five-point run that included two big kills from Louis. A kill from Bartz ended the set 25-11.
The final two sets were similar with the Cardinal offense never slowing down. Marty Canavan subbed in for Ball State in the second frame, adding three kills and a block assist to secure a 25-14 set win. In the third, Nathan Goh came in and helped close the deal with a 25-12 game-winning kill.
