Marty is the son of Bob Canavan and Laura Godwin. Marty has three siblings, sisters MaryEileen and Katie, and brother Kevin. He is studying Exercise Science.
Started playing volleyball: 4th grade
Favorite Volleyball memory: Team finished in 5th at USAV Nationals and was named to the All-Tournament team
Favorite trip you’ve been on/what is one place you dream of visiting: Went on a Royal Caribbean cruise
Favorite food: Mom’s Cajun chicken pasta
Dream job: Professional rock climber
Plans after college: Either play volleyball overseas or become a physical therapist in Chicago
What sport would you be playing if you were not playing volleyball: Gymnastics
2026: Appeared in 37 sets through 22 matches played, including his first collegiate start versus Tusculum (Feb. 26) … saw the floor for the first time in 2026 versus Maryville (MO) (Jan. 22), tallying five kills on .571 hitting with one dig … saw his best performance this season at Northern Kentucky (Feb. 21), recording a career-high seven kills on 10 attempts with two service aces … finished his junior season with 24 kills (.370), six aces, eight digs and two blocks … earned Academic All-Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association honors.
2025: Saw action in three matches … captured a career-high four kills, two digs and one block in a single game versus Lees-McRae (Jan. 23) … earned Academic All-Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association honors.
2024: Played in one match... Earned Academic All-Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association honors
High School/Club: Prior to Ball State, Marty achieved All-Tournament honors at USAV Nationals in 2021.
