
Track and Field Continues to Improve at Hoosier Horsepower Classic

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Track and field competed at the Hoosier Horsepower Classic Saturday (Jan. 18) in Indianapolis. This was the Cardinals third meet of the indoor season. Â
Competition opened once again with the weight throw. Brooklyn Taylor led the Cardinal throwers, finishing with a new personal best mark of 15.13 meters. Â
For the long jumpers, Jenelle Rogers was the Cardinals' top finisher, finishing third overall with a mark of 5.88 meters. In the triple jump, Mckenna Cinotte led the team with a jump of 11.79 meters and a third-place finish. Brenna Lehrke finished fifth and jumped a personal best mark of 11.57 meters. Â
The distance team saw a lot of success on the track, starting with two big personal bests in the mile. The first personal best performance came from Carly Spletzer who ran 10 seconds faster than her previous best, crossing the finish line with a time of 5:01.05 and placing third overall. Close behind Spletzer was Sarah Mahnensmith who finished fourth with a time of 5:01.34. Another big personal best in the mile was Jessica Velez who shaved 18 seconds off her time, finishing in 5:20.76. Â
Mikayla Mimnaugh also ran an impressive new personal best, finishing the 600-meter run in a time of 1:44.10, nearly 10 seconds faster than her previous best. Â
In the 3k, Kendyl Thrasher beat her personal best by over 12 seconds, finishing with a time of 10:57.15. Â
Jennah Rogers was the only Cardinal to move onto the finals in the 60-meter hurdles. In the finals, she finished fifth overall with a time of 8.69. Â
The meet closed with the 4x400-meter relay. Ball State's team of Emma Potter, Tori Jackson, Allison Valladay and Jenna Oriani finished with a collective time of 3:54.57, good for second place. Â
