
Track and Field Totals Seven Event Wins at Bellarmine Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Ball State track and field continued to impress early in the indoor season Friday (Jan. 24) at the Bellarmine Classic in Louisville, Kentucky. Â
The Cardinals' throwers got things started early Friday morning in the ring. In the weight throw, Malena Higgins and Brooklyn Taylor both qualified for the finals. Higgins finished sixth with a throw of 15.24 meters, followed by a seventh-place finish from Taylor who threw 14.93 meters. Sydney Miller finished twelfth with a new personal best of 13.67 meters. Â
Taylor also had an exceptional throw in the shot put, hitting a new personal best mark of 13.51 meters, good for second place. Â
Sophie Daugard led the Cardinals in the long jump, hitting a mark of 5.56 meters and winning the event. Behind Daugard was Kylee Marshall who finished third with a mark of 5.41 meters and Lindley Steele who finished fourth with a mark of 5.34 meters. Â
Brenna Lehrke secured a second-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 11.21 meters. Finishing in third was Emma Upp who jumped a new personal best, hitting a mark of 10.87 meters. Taylor Hickman finished close behind in fourth with a 10.84-meter jump. Â
It was a top three sweep in the high jump under the lead of Malina Miller. She hit a new personal best height of 1.75 meters to take first place. Kenli Nettles finished second with a mark of 1.64 meters, followed by Lexi Hale's third place jump of 1.61 meters. Â
On the track, Ball State continued to hit the leaderboards. Jenelle Rogers and Lauren Graham secured the top two places in the 60-meter hurdle finals, finishing in times of 8.70 and 9.02 respectively. Â
All six competing Cardinals ran their way into the 60-meter dash finals. Alana Springer won the event with a time of 7.67, just beating Moriah Johnson's finish of 7.68. Savannah Lake finished fifth with a time of 7.83 and Jiah Davenport followed in sixth crossing the finish line in 7.92. Â
Springer won her second event of the day with a 24.58 200-meter performance. Rounding out the top four behind her were Jenna Oriani (24.74), Moriah Johnson (25.06) and Kylee Marshall (25.40). Â
Oriani also picked up a victory, winning the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.15. Emma Potter finished second, crossing the finish line in 56.39. Â
In the 800-meter run, Tori Jackson won with a three-second advantage, crossing the finish line with a time of 2:13.97. Â
For the distance team, Carly Spletzer ran a new personal best time of 9:52.55 in the seeded 3,000, good for second place. Â
Next up, the Cardinals will split in preparation for Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational and Louisville's PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational. Both meets will take place on Jan. 31-Feb. 1. Â Â
