Field Hockey Set to Open MAC Play on the Road at Kent State Friday; Hosts No. 12 Louisville Sunday

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team is set to open its Mid-American Conference season on the road Friday at Kent State. The game is slated to begin at 2 pm ET in Murphy-Mellis Field. The Cardinals will then host No. 12 Louisville on Sunday at noon at the Briner Sports Complex.Â

The Cardinals (1-3, 0-0 MAC) will look to rebound from a 2-0 loss at Big Ten foe Indiana just a week ago while the Golden Flashes (0-6, 0-0 MAC) are still looking for its first victory of the season. Most recently, Kent State fell to Penn State by a 4-1 decision in Kent, Ohio.

The last time Ball State defeated Kent State was Oct. 22, 2011, in Muncie by a score of 4-3. Since 2009 the Golden Flashes hold a 19-1 record against the Cardinals. Kent State won its last meeting over Ball State by a score of 4-2, Sept. 30, 2023, in Muncie.Â

Ball State head coach Caitlin Walsh is no stranger when it comes to Kent State. Walsh served as the assistant coach for the Golden Flashes for three seasons (2019, 2020 & 2021) helping Kent State amass a 34-18 record, including 20-5 in league play. The Golden Flashes were regular season conference champions in 2019 and 2021.

After Friday, Ball State will host No. 12 Louisville (3-3) on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action. Ball State leads the all-time series over Louisville, 15-14 with UofL winning the last eight meetings.Â

Before joining the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), Louisville was a member of the MAC in field hockey from 1994 until 2004. The last meeting between the two schools was on October 16, 2022, resulting in a 4-0 loss for Ball State in Louisville.

Ball State remains home after this weekend as the Cardinals welcome Miami (Sept. 27) and Michigan State (Sept. 29) to the Briner Sports Complex with the game times beginning at 3 pm ET and 1 pm ET, respectively.
