
Field Hockey Falls in Tough Defensive Battle at Kent State

KENT, Ohio - The Ball State field hockey team (1-4, 0-1 MAC) fell 1-0 in a hard fought defensive battle at Kent State (1-6, 1-0 MAC) Friday afternoon at Murphy-Mellis Field.Â
The Cardinals played well defensively throughout the 60-minutes of today's contest. Despite suffering the loss, Hannah Johnston was in goal for Ball State today and had a strong showing after registering nine saves, while only allowing one goal off the Golden Flashes' 18 shot attempts.Â
Ball State produced strong defensively off of Kent State's 12 penalty corners.
All-in-all it was a positive showing for the Cardinals, allowing only one goal to Kent State at the 28th minute of the second frame of action.Â
The Cardinals had really good ball movement while also transitioning the ball well but fell short when entering the scoring circle.Â
In the final three minutes of play, Ball State pulled its keeper which allowed more Cardinals on the field for the potential tying goal but unfortunately fell short to Kent State's aggressive defense the remainder of the contest.Â
The Ball State field hockey team returns home Sunday as the Cardinals welcome No. 12 Louisville to the Briner Sports Complex. The game is slated to begin at noon.Â
