Men's Swim & Dive Falls To UIC

MUNCIE, Ind. - - Despite seven event wins, the Ball State men's swimming & diving program opened the 2024-25 season with a 143.5-156.5 setback to Missouri Valley Conference rival UIC Saturday afternoon at the Lewellen Aquatic Center.

In its first-ever meet in the MVC, the Cardinals were led by a pair of event wins from both sophomore Malcolm Slater and freshman Andre Friend.

Slater would take top billing in the 200 freestyle (1:41.42), as well as the 500 freestyle (4:41.59).Â

Friend would take home the individual titles in both the 50 freestyle (21.43) and the 100 butterfly (51.38). In addition, Friend would close his first collegiate meet by swimming leadoff for the first-place 400 freestyle relay (3:08.05).

Junior Jacob Siewers would also open his season with an individual event victory, claiming the title in 100 freestyle (46.84). In addition, he swam anchor for the first-place 400 freestyle relay and took second in the 200 freestyle (1:43.94).

Rounding out Ball State's individual winners was senior Ethan Pheifer in the 100 backstroke (52.08).

Swimming the middle legs of the first-place 400 freestyle relay for the Cardinals were juniors Mason Young and Benjamin Clarkston.

The Ball State men's swimming & diving program returns to action Friday (Oct. 18), when it travels to MVC rival Miami for a 3 p.m. start.
