Cardinals Finish First 6k of the Season

BOWLING GREEN - Oh. – Cross country competed in their first 6k race of the season on Friday at the Mel Brodt Open.

Sarah Mahnensmith led the Cardinals, finishing 17th with a time of 21:54.1. Shelby Christman and Carly Spletzer followed closely behind, finishing 24th and 27th. Christman finished with a time of 22:07.7 and Spletzer finished with a time of 22:09.6.

Jessica Velez crossed the finish line in a time of 22:41.0, good for 36th.

Ella Fullmer finished 78th with a time of 24:04.8, followed by Jenna Schifferer who finished 80th with a time of 24:14.7.

Maci Hoskins and Kendyl Thrasher finished with times of 24:22.2 and 24:42.7, respectively.

Ashley Pernecker, in her first college race, finished in a time of 25:37.0.

Ashley Craycraft rounded out the Cardinal competitors with a time of 28:13.2. Collectively, the team finished 7th.

"The ladies had an opportunity to compete at the conference course, which we will see again later this season," said head coach Adrian Wheatley. "I was pleased with the efforts as we will use each meet to prepare us for the big show at the end of the year. It was good to see the team work together in the first part of the race and compete in the second half. I'm encouraged by the progression from meet one to meet two."

The Cardinals will look ahead to the Loyola Lakefront Invitational on September 29th.
