Cross Country Dominates at Ball State We Fly Challenge

ANDERSON, Ind. – The Cardinals completed their first meet of the season on Friday as they hosted the Ball State We Fly Challenge. Â
Junior Shelby Christman led Ball State in their top-four sweep of the meet. Christman completed the 5k with a time of 18:21.2.Â
Sarah Mahnensmith finished second with a time of 18:43.0. Closely following were Carly Spletzer and Jessica Velez who finished third and fourth. Spletzer ended with a time of 18:48.6 and Velez finished in 19:30.0.Â
Jenna Schifferer had a seventh place finish, running a 19:50.4. Ella Fulmer (10th) ran a 20:30.4 followed by Kendyl Thrasher (11th) with a time of 20:37.2. Ashley Craycraft did not place but ran a time of 23:59.3.Â
"It's nice for them to be able to come out and compete in front of the home fans," said head coach Adrian Wheatley. "Everyday is an opportunity for us to get better. If we do that then we're going to have success."Â
As a team, BSU beat their competitors, Lindenwood (55) and Austin Peay (60), with a score of 17.Â
Ball State will head to Bowling Green, Ohio for the Mel Brodt Collegiate Open on September 15th.Â
