
Women’s Swim & Dive Ties for Second at Butler Invite

Muncie, Ind. – The Ball State women's swimming & diving team finished their 2022-2023 regular season campaign Sunday afternoon at the Butler Invite. The Cardinals (4-4) won three events on their way to tying for second among seven teams at the Natatorium Aquatic Center.
Ball State started off with a bang, placing first in the 400 medley relay (3:52.96). Sophomore Lilia Newkirk led the way for the Cardinals and was joined by junior Laura Wright, sophomore Hannah Jones, and senior Apsara Sakbun.
Jones added to her day with second-place finishes in both the 100 backstroke (57.89) and 100 butterfly (58.06).
Maddy Hischer had a solid day in the diving well placing first with a score of 262.70 on the 1M board.
Juniors Marcella Ribiero and Laura Wright also added second-place efforts in the 1650 freestyle (17:30.00) and 200 breaststroke (2:23.50), respectively.
Ball State finished the meet as well as it started with a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay (1:36.41). Sophomore Gracey Payne got it going for the Cardinals and was joined by Sakbun, Jones, and freshman Payton Kelly.
The Ball State women's swimming & diving program returns to action Feb. 22-25 at the MAC Championships in Miami, Ohio.
