Women Swim & Dive Splits Tri Meet At ISU

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Ball State women's swimming & diving team opened the second half of the season by winning three events Saturday afternoon in a tri meet at the Vigo County Aquatic Center.
With the strong effort, the Cardinals (3-3) split on the day, earning a 152-148 win over Southern Illinois, and suffering a 197-103 setback to host Indiana State.
Junior Marcella Ribeiro started off the meet strong with a first-place finish in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:25.30. Ribeiro also finished second in the 500 freestyle (5:06.59).
Sophomore Hannah Jones joined the win column with her first-place effort in the 100 backstroke (56.88). In addition, Jones placed second alongside seniors Shelby Crist, Apsara Sakbun, and junior Laura Wright in the 200 medley relay (1:45.01).
Jones finished off her day with a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly (56.84).
Wright and Sakbun both added to their second-place relay finish with additional second-place performances in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.63) and 50 freestyle (24.27), respectively.
Sophomore Ashleigh Provan had a great day in the diving well giving BSU a victory on the 3M board (264.65) and a second-place finish on the 1M board (259.10).
The Ball State women's swimming & diving program will be back in action next Saturday, Jan. 21, at noon when it hosts Miami University at the Lewellen Aquatic Center.
