Women's Swim & Dive Hosts Miami on Saturday

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State women's swimming & diving program continues the second half of the 2022-23 campaign this Saturday at noon when it hosts league rival Miami. The men will also compete against the RedHawks at the Lewellen Aquatic Center.
This will be the eighth meet of the season for the women's program, which owns a 3-3 dual record and placed second among eight teams at the Indiana Intercollegiates (Oct. 22) and third among nine teams at the Miami Invitational (Dec. 1-3).
SATURDAY'S EVENT LINEUP AT INDIANA STATE:
200 Medley Relay, 1000 Free, 200 Free, 100 Back, 100 Breast, 200 Fly, 50 Free, 3M Diving, 100 Free, 200 Back, 200 Breast, 500 Free, 100 Fly, 1M Diving, 400 IM, 400 Free Relay
The last time out, the Cardinals captured three individual event victories at a tri meet at the Vigo County Aquatic Center where they were defeated by Indiana State 103-197 and were victorious against Southern Illinois 152-148.
Junior Marcella Ribeiro started off strong for the Cardinals, earning the team's first victory of the meet with a final touch of 10:25.30 in the 1000 freestyle. Ribeiro also finished second in the 500 freestyle (5:06.59).
Sophomore Hannah Jones added to Ball State's win column with her first-place finish in the 100 backstroke (56.88). In addition, Jones placed second alongside seniors Shelby Crist, Apsara Sakbun, and junior Laura Wright in the 200 medley relay (1:45.01).
Sophomore Ashleigh Provan had a great day in the diving well, giving BSU a victory on the 3M board (264.65) and a second-place finish on the 1M board (259.10).
Ball State last competed against Miami in a dual meet on Feb. 12, 2021, suffering a 155-137 setback at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center.
IN THE MAC RANKINS – WOMEN:
Entering the Miami Invitational, the Cardinals have eight student-athletes ranked in scoring position in their respective events as compiled by CollegeSwimming.com.
Junior Marcella Ribeiro, who holds program records in the 200, 500, 1000, and 1650 freestyle is BSU's top-ranked swimmer, holding third in the 1650 freestyle with her time of 17:01.74.

MAC AWARD WINNERS:
So far this season, the Cardinals have already claimed two MAC awards, with freshman Payton Kelly earning a pair of MAC Women's Swimmer of the Week honors. Her first came after the Indiana Intercollegiates where she won both the 50 (23.45) and 100 (51.55) freestyle events and swam the first leg of the 200 freestyle relay (1:35.05). Her second came after the Akron (Nov. 5) dual, when she swept the freestyle sprints; 50 free (23.57), 100 free (51.74), and 200 free (1:52.48). She also swam anchor for the first-place 400 freestyle relay (3:27.48).
2022-23 WOMEN'S INDIVIDUAL EVENT WINNERS (40 TOTAL WINS):
As a squad, the Cardinals have chalked up 40 individual wins and six relay victories over the first six meets of the season. Junior Marcella Ribeiro leads the pack with nine individual event victories, including one last time out in the 1000 freestyle at Indiana State.
