MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - With just 43 seconds shaved off the clock in double overtime, senior Angel Nkosi sprinted down the field beating out all the Central Michigan defenders to score the game-winning goal against the Chippewas.

Ball State would defeat Central Michigan 4-3 for its second overtime win of the season.

The victory moved the Cardinals to 5-4 on the season and 2-1 in Mid-American Conference action while the Chippewas drop to 1-9 overall and 0-3 in league play.

"What a comeback," Ball State head field hockey coach Caitlin Walsh said. "I'm extremely proud of this team for coming back from a 0-3 deficit. They played with heart and grit and never gave up or counted themselves out. Every single player contributed. I could not be prouder of this team."

It wasn't the strongest of first halves for Ball State today and things began to look bleak by halftime, as Central Michigan had built a 2-0 edge over the Cardinals after the first 30 minutes of action.

CMU struck again at the start of the third period to make it a three-score ball game.

But that didn't seem to faze the Cardinals, as freshman Fleur Knopert found the back of the cage off the assist from freshman Emma Van Hal at the 42:59 mark to give Ball State new life.

After that, Emma Hilton along with Lexi Kansky had back-to-back goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation which would entail send today's contest into overtime.

In the extra period, both teams played strong defensively and were unable come up with a score in the first OT. Ball State had a determined look on their faces in double overtime. The Cardinals moved down the field quickly which allowed Nkosi to score the game-winner off the assist from Fleur.

The Ball State field hockey team will now head to No. 8 Michigan for a Sunday matinee against the Maize & Blue which will begin at 1 pm ET.
