Field Hockey Plays At Kent State Friday; Hosts Iowa Sunday

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team continues Mid-American Conference action when it travels to the reigning 2021 MAC regular season champion Kent State Friday, for a 2 pm ET showdown at Murphy-Mellis Field.
The Cardinals close out its two-game weekend Sunday at noon, when it hosts Big Ten foe Iowa at the Briner Sports Complex.
Both Ball State (4-2, 1-0 MAC) and Kent State (3-4, 1-0 MAC) enter Friday's MACtion with an undefeated league record after the Cardinals defeated Longwood last Friday 3-2 and the Golden Flashes took down Appalachian State by a 2-1 decision.
The last time Ball State defeated Kent State was Oct. 22, 2011, in Muncie by a score of 4-3. Since 2009 the Golden Flashes hold a 17-1 record against the Cardinals. Kent State won its last meeting over Ball State by a score of 2-1, Oct. 30, 2021.
Ball State head coach Caitlin Walsh is no stranger when it comes to Kent State. Walsh served as the assistant coach for the Golden Flashes for three seasons (2019, 2020 & 2021) helping Kent State amass a 34-18 record, including 20-5 in league play. The Golden Flashes were regular season conference champions in 2019 and 2021.
On Sunday, Ball State will host the fifth-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes for the first time since Sept. 27 which resulted in a 6-1 loss for the Cardinals. Iowa leads the all-time series over Ball State, 25-2. The Hawkeyes have won 11 straight over the Cardinals in the all-time series, including a 7-1 win in the most recent meeting in 2018.
