Parrott Records Historic Day, Cardinals in Fifth at Brittany Kelly Cardinal Classic
September 19, 2022 | Women's Golf
YORKTOWN, Ind – The Ball State women's golf team was back on the course for the Brittany Kelly Cardinal Classic at The Players Club at Woodland Trails on Monday. Kiah Parrott made history as she posted the second-lowest round in BSU history, and she recorded the lowest two-round mark in program history.
"I'm proud of them," said Head Coach Cameron Andry. "Kiah was amazing, to post those two rounds today was great. I'm really happy for her. She's put in the hard work and it's cool to see it paying off. We didn't get off to a great start. We hung in there and played a little better in the second round. I thought everybody gave us a contribution at some point, so that was really good and something we can build on. We're still within striking distance. If we can come out tomorrow and get hot, you never know what might happen."
Parrott started the day with four-consecutive pars in the first round. She began to heat up as she recorded birdies on five of her next six holes. She finished round one with six birdies. Her opening round of 67 (-5) is the second-lowest score in Cardinal history. She continued where she left off on round one, as she birdied four of the first nine holes of round two. She added six birdies in round two, including on the par-4 18th, as she produced a mark of 68 (-4). Her two-round total of 135 (-9) is the best two-round score in BSU history. She sits in first place after two rounds and leads the field with 12 birdies.
"I think everything was in my favor," said Parrott. "My putter got hot pretty early, that helped me a lot and it stayed hot throughout the round. I made a couple of bogies, but it happens. I need to get a good night's rest and try to keep the momentum up tomorrow to try and win the tournament. This is my first home tournament while being at Ball State. It's bittersweet to post a round like that, especially being the first one."
"I'm not surprised because she's that good," said Coach Andry. "This is how she's played for us in practice all fall. She's been really steady. I'm really happy for her because I know it's been a struggle the last couple of years battling injuries and trying to get healthy. When I watched her today, it looked like she was having fun and that's the way it should be."
Sarah Gallagher is tied for 12th after she notched a two-round mark of 147 (+3). She opened the day with four birdies on the front nine and finished with five for the round on her way to a 72 (E). In the second round, she added two birdies and finished with a 75 (+3). She has seven birdies for the tournament.
