Cardinals Fight Royals to Draw

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Ball State soccer team returned to action Sunday for a morning contest against Queens from Dickson Field at the Queens Sports Complex. The Cardinals put 11 shots on goal.
Ball State and Queens both move to 0-1-1 on the season with the 0-0 draw.
Avery Fenchel recorded the match's first two shots on goal for the Cardinals, but the Royals' goalie was able to stop both shots.
Queens answered with a quick counter, off the second shot on goal for Fenchel, and sent a ball on frame, but Bethany Moser was there to make the save.
In the 20th minute, Maya Millis had a scoring chance but was unable to beat the QU keeper. In the 41st minute, Delaney Caldwell produced a shot on net, but the Queens goalie kept the match scoreless.
The Royals opened the second half with a shot on target in the first 30 seconds of action, but Moser made the save.
In the 62nd minute, Jenna Dombrowski produced a shot inside the box, but her shot was kept out of the back of the net by the right post. Caldwell beats the Queens goalie, but a Royals' player kicked the ball out before it went into the net in the 76th minute.
The Cardinals finished the match with 17 shots, 11 on target, compared to the five shots, two on goals, for the Royals. Moser finished the match with two saves.
Fenchel and Lexi Fraley each finished the contest with three shots on goal, while Caldwell added two shots on frame.
The Cardinals will play their first match of the season in Indiana on Thursday, August 25. Ball State makes the trip to Bloomington for a matchup with Indiana. First touch is scheduled for 8 p.m.
"It was a hard, tough match today," said Head Coach Josh Rife. "Our ladies battled hard, created a lot of chances, and also kept a shutout."
