
Dobbins Delivers Walk-Off Blast to Propel Cardinals Over Bobcats

With a runner on second and two outs, Hunter Dobbins delivered the biggest hit of his young career. The count was 2-2 and Dobbins launched a two-run home run to give the Cardinals the 6-4 walk-off victory.
Amir Wright led off the bottom of the ninth with an eight-pitch walk. He advanced to second on a passed ball with two outs and set the stage for Dobbins.
Wright led off the game with a double off the left center wall for the Cardinals in the bottom of the first. Trenton Quartermaine followed with a single to center field that scored Wright from second. Nick Powell grounded out to third and moved Quartermaine to second. The game was halted due to weather.
When play resumed on Thursday, Quartermaine advanced to third on a wild pitch with two outs. Zach Cole singled to the right side and drove in Quartermaine from third. The Cardinals took a 2-0 lead into the second inning.
Ty Johnson started on the mound for Ball State on Thursday. In the top of the second inning, he saw three batters and got out of the inning with a double play to end the inning. The MAC Defensive Player of the Year, Ryan Peltier snagged a line drive and threw the runner out at first trying to get back to the bag.
Peltier led off the bottom of the second with a single to center field. Matthew Rivera drew a six-pitch walk to give the Cardinals runners on first and second. Justin Conant laid down the perfect sac bunt to move runners to second and third. Wright grounded out to second and allowed Peltier to score from third. Ball State held a 3-0 lead after two innings of play.
The Bobcats did not go down without a fight and tied the game in the top of the Spencer Harbert put Ohio on the board with a sac fly to left center. Will Sturek tied the game with a two-run homer down the right field line. Harbert gave the Bobcats a 4-3 lead in the top of the sixth with a solo run down the left field line.
Cole led off the bottom of the eighth with a double to left center. Adam Tellier dropped down a sac bunt to move Cole to third. Cole was able to score on a wild pitch to tie the game 4-4 after eight innings.
With one out and a runner on second, Tellier made the biggest play in the game up to that point, as he made a diving stop on a ball hit up the middle and threw the runner out at first.

Tyler Schweitzer started the game and went one inning. He recorded one strikeout. Johnson went 4 1/3 innings in relief for the Cardinals and tallied six strikeouts. He surrendered four earned runs on five hits. Ryan Brown added 2 2/3 innings of relief and struck out two batters without giving up a hit. Sam Klein closed out the ninth with a strikeout and earned the win. He improved to 4-2 on the season.
Edward Kutt IV got the start for the Bobcats and went 5 2/3 innings. He struck out three batters and gave up three earned runs on six hits. Chace Harris went two innings in relief with a strikeout and one earned run. Brett Manis got the loss and fell to 4-3 on the year. He went one inning with a strikeout and surrendered two earned runs.
With the win, the Cardinals improved to 39-17 overall and the Bobcats fell to 29-23.
Ball State will play Central Michigan in the winner's bracket. First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Friday, May 27, but is subject to change.
