Ball State Falls to Ohio in Weather-Shortened Day

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State baseball team took on Ohio in game two of a four-game series from the Ball Diamond at First Merchants Ballpark Complex on Saturday. The Bobcats defeated the Cardinals 5-3. Game two of the doubleheader was halted due to weather and will resume on Sunday, May 15, at 10 a.m.
Amir Wright extended his streak of reaching base safely to 22 games and has reached safely in 48 of the 49 games. Trenton Quartermaine has reached safely in 25-straight games, while Nick Powell has reached safely in 12 consecutive.

The Bobcats got on the scoreboard first as Colin Kasperbauer scored on a wild pitch. Ohio extended its lead in the top of the third inning as OU scored two runs on one hit. The Bobcats tacked on two more runs in the top of the sixth and took a 5-0 lead into the seventh inning.
Adam Tellier drew a four-pitch walk to start the bottom of the seventh with one out for the Cardinals. Peltier reached on a fielder's choice and Tellier was safe at second on an error by the shortstop. Zach Lane came into the game to pinch hit and delivered a single to left field that scored Tellier. Wright singled to the shortstop with two outs to load the bases. Quartermaine singled up the middle and scored Peltier and Lane. Ball State cut the deficit to 5-3 but was unable to tie the game.
Ty Johnson got the loss for the Cardinals and fell to 7-3. He went six innings and surrendered five earned runs on seven hits. He added five strikeouts. Tyler Ruetschle threw a scoreless inning in relief and recorded one strikeout.
Eamon Horwedel got the win for the Bobcats and improved to 2-0 on the year. He picked up two strikeouts and held Ball State to two hits in 5 1/3 innings. Brett Manis went 1 2/3 innings and gave up three runs, two earned. He added a strikeout.
