Ball State Flies West for Showdown with No. 13/21 Oregon

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State baseball team earned a No. 25 ranking in the latest Collegiate Baseball Poll and the Cardinals take that ranking to Eugene, Oregon, for a matchup with the No. 13/21 Oregon Ducks.
In the last MAC series, Ball State claimed a 3-1 series win over Toledo. Amir Wright reached base safely for the 26th-straight contest, which is all the games so far this season. On the mound, Trennor O'Donnell, Sam Klein, and Ty Johnson each collected wins for BSU.
The Wright Stuff
Amir Wright has reached base safely in all 26 games this season. He has 16 walks, has scored 24 runs, and hit three triples, all lead the team. He has added six doubles, four stolen bases, and one home run. Wright is currently tied for 10th in the nation as the toughest to strikeout and leads the MAC with a strikeout average of 19.2. He has struck out just five times in 96 at bats.
Power Bats
The Cardinal offense features 12 guys that have combined for 30 home runs. BSU is tied for 74th in the NCAA in home runs and are third in the MAC. The team has produced 153 RBIs and has produced 165 runs.

Trennor O'Donnell is projected to get the start in game one against the Ducks and enters the weekend with a 3-2 record. He has produced 29 strikeouts and a 5.65 ERA in 28 2/3 innings. Tyler Schweitzer has a team-high 49 strikeouts in 36 innings of work. He is tied for the team lead in wins with a 4-2 record and boasts an ERA of 3.25. Schweitzer is expected to get the ball in game two of the series. Ty Johnson is the scheduled starter in game three and he enters tied for the team lead in wins with a 4-1 record. Johnson has tallied 36 strikeouts in 34 1/3 innings of work and an ERA of 5.50. Sam Klein, Ty Weatherly, Ryan Brown, and Nate Dohm have 20 or more strikeouts with 24, 24, 22, and 22, respectively. The pitching staff is tied for 18th in the NCAA with 7.50 hits allowed per nine innings, which leads the MAC.
Kloser Klein
Klein solidified his role as a closer as he has six saves, which is tied for 16th in the NCAA and leads the MAC. He has struck out 24 batters in 15 1/3 innings on the mound. Opponents are hitting just .154 against him.
