Women’s Tennis Rallies for 4-3 Win Over Western Michigan

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Ball State women's tennis team showed its resilience today with a come from behind 4-3 win against Western Michigan Friday afternoon at West Hills. Amy Kaplan clinched the winning point for the Cardinals at the No. 3 singles spot.
With the victory, Ball State remains atop of the Mid-American Conference standings with a 16-3 overall record and a 7-1 league mark while Western Michigan drops to 11-10 on the year and 4-4 in conference play.
After dropping the doubles point, the Cardinals found themselves down 2-0 quickly after WMU took court No. 2 from BSU.
The Cardinals finally got on the board when Hannah Davies earned a straight set (6-1, 6-4) defeat over the Broncos No. 4 singles player, Kiana Rizzolo.
Western Michigan then went up 3-1 after Ball State dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision at the No. 5 slot.
Things were looking bleak for the Cardinals as only three courts remained and WMU needed only one point to take the match from BSU.
Mariya Polishchuk answered after tallying a 6-2, 7-6 victory against Lindsey Zieglar on the top court to make the score 3-2.
Livia Lukacs then knotted the match 3-3 with her three-set thriller after beating Kaitlyn Rogosch at position six, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Kaplan then rose to the occasion on court three winning, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 against Karin Hamilton.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues Mid-American Conference action on Friday, April 22 at Northern Illinois. First serve is at 2 pm ET.
