DEKALB, Ill. - The Ball State women's tennis team (16-4, 7-2 MAC) fell one point shy today losing a close 4-3 match at Northern Illinois (16-11, 3-6 MAC) Friday afternoon at the Chick Evans Field House.
The Cardinals played with a limited lineup against the Huskies but still managed to take the doubles point from NIU.
First off the court for Ball State was the top court duo of Hannah Davies and Amy Kaplan as the twosome earned a 6-3 decision against the Huskies Anastasia Rakita and Erika Dimitriev.
Isabelle Behrman and Emily Desai then followed suit to claim the doubles point after posting a 6-3 defeat versus Northern Illinois' No. 2 doubles tandem, Christy Robinson and Fernanda Naves.
After that, singles competition was tight as the Cardinals took two of the courts quickly and the Huskies answered earning three points to tie the match at 3-3 with one singles match remaining.
The fourth and final point came down to the No. 6 slot where Behrman fell despite her efforts in straight sets to Robinson, 6-2, 6-2.
The Ball State women's tennis team returns home Sunday for its final Mid-American Conference regular season match when it hosts Eastern Michigan at 1 pm ET at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center, weather permitting.
