Women’s Tennis Suffers 4-3 Heartbreaking Loss At EMU

YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Ball State women's tennis team (12-3, 3-1 MAC) dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 loss on the road at Eastern Michigan (12-11, 2-2 MAC) Friday afternoon at the Chippewa Club.
The Cardinals got off to a strong start by taking the first point of the match after earning doubles victories on courts two and three.
Amy Kaplan paired up with teammate Hannah Davies as the No. 2 duo took down EMU's Vasavi Ganesan and Isabelle Popma, 6-2. Emma Peeler and Mariya Polishchuk then claimed the doubles point after their 6-4 defeat against Grace Whitney and Luisa Pelayo on court three.
Things were looking good for Ball State at the start of singles play. Hannah Davies pushed the Cardinals lead to 2-0 after beating Ganesan on court No. 5 in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1.
After that, the tides quickly changed as Eastern Michigan earned wins on courts six, two, one and three which ultimately gave the Eagles four points to complete their come from behind victory today.
One court remained after the match had been won. Kaplan earned a three-set thriller at the No. 4 position allowing the Cardinals to end their day on a high note.
Both Kaplan and Davies remained undefeated in MAC play today with a perfect 4-0 record.
The Ball State women's tennis team will return home Sunday for a 1 pm ET first serve against Northern Illinois. The match will be played at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center, weather permitting.
