Women’s Tennis Opens Spring Break In California With 4-3 Win At Azusa Pacific

AZUSA, Calif. - The Ball State women's tennis team opened its 2022 spring break with a 4-3 victory over Azusa Pacific Monday evening at the Muson & Bavougian Tennis Complex. The Cardinals have now improved to 8-2 on the season while the Cougars dropped to 5-4 overall.
The Cardinals won the team doubles point on court three where Mariya Polishchuk and Jessica Braun defeated Madison Kane and Audrey Stewart in a close 7-5 match to give Ball State the early 1-0 edge over Azusa Pacific.
After the Cougars had tied the match 1-1 recording the first singles victory of the day, Ball State regained the lead with Ella Hazelbaker's straight set take down over Azusa Pacific's Lilla Plasek on court six, 6-4, 6-0. Elena Malykh followed suit at the No. 5 spot as she downed Katherine Nguyen, 6-0, 6-3.
The Cardinals needed just one more point and that happened quickly as Polishchuk beat Carolyn Brooner on court No. 3 by a score of 6-4, 6-2 to clinch match point for Ball State.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues action in California when it plays UC San Diego in La Jolla on Wednesday, March 9 at 4 pm ET.
