Cardinals pick up pair of wins at EY Match Play

Ball State defeats Loyola and Xavier in Florida
DADE CITY, Fla. – The Ball State men's golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the spring season, picking up a pair of wins at the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play.
The Cardinals' 6-man lineup consisting of Evan Bone, Griffin Hare, Ali Khan, Colin Nasser, Joey Ranieri and Joey Wiseman combined to pick up six wins with five earning at least one win. Wiseman paced Ball State with two match victories.
Despite tying the opening round match to Dayton Monday morning, 3-3, the Flyers advanced on a tiebreaker by winning by six holes compared to the Cardinals' five.
Hare and Khan guided Ball State in the first match by winning their matches, 3&2 and 2&1, respectively, while Ranieri and Wiseman earned draws.
In their second match of the day, the tiebreaker went in favor of the Cardinals. Ball State and Xavier tied 3-3, but the Cardinals won by more holes (six) than the Musketeers (three).
Bone (4&3) and Wiseman (2&1) earned match victories, while Hare and Khan drew their respective matches.
In the final round on Tuesday, Ball State took down Loyola, 3.5-2.5. Nasser and Wiseman each picked up dominant 5&4 wins, while Hare, Khan and Ranieri all tied their matches.
Eastern Michigan won the tournament after defeating Toledo in the championship match, 4-2.
The Cardinals return to the course in three weeks as they prepare for the Dorado Beach Collegiate, hosted by UNC Greensboro, in Dorado, Puerto Rico.
