Men’s Volleyball Splits Two-Match Series At BYU, Wins 3-1
February 05, 2022 | Men's Volleyball
PROVO, Utah - The No. 10 Ball State men's volleyball team (6-1) split the two-match road series at No. 9 BYU (5-3) Saturday after taking down the Cougars by a score of 3-1 Saturday night in Smith Fieldhouse.
The Cardinals fell behind early to the Cougars after dropping the first set 25-23. Ball State then came back with a vengeance taking the second frame from BYU, 25-19.
The third set went to extra points as both teams played neck and neck. Unfortunately, the Cardinals dropped the third set to the Cougars, 33-31.
Set four was a battle but back-to-back BYU hitting errors late in the frame allowed Ball State to go up 22-20.
Sophomore opposite hitter Dyer Ball's kill put the Cardinals up 23-20 over the Cougars. An ace by senior opposite hitter Kaleb Jenness and another kill by Ball sealed the victory for BSU.
For the game, Jenness led the team with 19 kills and Ball registered a personal best 17-kill performance. Setter Quinn Isaacson dished out 50 assists and led BSU defensively with 16 digs.
Ball State will open Mid-Western Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) play on Friday, Feb. 10 at Lewis University in Romeoville, Ill. at 8 pm ET. Ironically, current Ball State assistant coach Mike Iandolo was a standout player for the Flyers. During his career as a Flyer, Iandolo was a three-time Delahnty Award winner and MIVA Academic All-Conference selection at the setter position. He was also a two-time All-MIVA First Team selection. After his playing days with the Flyers, Iandolo spent the 2012-13 campaign as a graduate assistant coach for his alma mater.
