February 10, 2022 | Men's Volleyball
ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The No. 10 Ball State men's volleyball team pulled off the 3-0 sweep over No. 6 Lewis Thursday night in both the Cardinals and the Flyers Midwestern Intercollegiate Volley Association (MIVA) opener.
The Cardinals (7-1, 1-0 MIVA) put on a convincing display tonight at Lewis (6-3, 0-1 MIVA), making it Ball State's first win at Lewis since 2010.
In addition to the Cardinals offense, Ball State also turned in an impressive display on defense with 30 digs and 17 blocks.
The Cardinal's charge was led by Angelos Mandilaris with 18 kills and Kaleb Jenness who turned in a 17-kill performance. Mandilaris turned in a .593 hitting percentage after limiting himself to only two attack errors.
Ball State trailed Lewis at the start of the opening set in the first frame of action which went to extra points but after that the Cardinals were in the driver's seat pretty much controlling the entire contest tonight from start to finish.
The Flyers did have a slight edge over the Cardinals in set one, but BSU was able to turn things around and come out on top late 31-29. Although the scores were close in sets two and three Ball State won those frames 25-22 and 25-20.
The Ball State men's volleyball team will continue its two-match MIVA road swing when it travels to McKendree Saturday for an 8 pm first serve in the Melvin Price Convocation Center.
